I’m Jess, I work with and write about the people who feed us
I’ve always loved food - the type of person who thinks about dinner while I’m eating breakfast. I love people who plant gardens, who produce flowers and food. I love chefs who source the best ingredients, who build plates from scratch, who imagine the whole experience for diners to enjoy. I love family meals. Cooking with a loved one. The seasons. Admiring a well set table. I love bringing friends into the woods to cook over fire, in the snow or the heat of summer. I love fresh foraged herbs and edible flowers.
In 2010, I started supporting small farmers market businesses that grew to nationally distributed brands on grocery shelves across the country. I relish the moment journalists invite me to their offices in NYC for a visit and love to see their test kitchen staff pulling perfectly browned turkeys out of the oven for their thanksgiving shoots.
I seek out the farmers market, the down the dirt road farm stand, locally grown flowers in the height of summer. Apple picking in fall, boiling maple syrup in March, the fishing piers in Maine, friends who can shuck an oyster.
